The Czech Mates are a formation aerobatic display team based at Dunkeswell Airfield in Devon. They were started by owner Andy Twemlow and display pilot Simon Wilson in January 2015 after thinking about some acts that would be suitable as an Air Show display item. They had been operating the Zlin for a while when Andy decided he would like to have a second one. They decided to form a formation display team using two Zlins. The team name was suggested by aircraft enthusiasts on an UK Air Show Review internet forum. Andy and Simon loved the name and decided to use it.
Since then we have drafted in two other pilots, Mark Jameson and Steve Robson to give the team a bit more flexibility when we require it. For more information about each of the pilots, click ‘The Team’ tab at the top of the page.
The team operate two Zlin 526 aircraft, a two seat 526F and single seat 526AFS. We also operate a classic Boeing Stearman A75N1 marked in US Navy training colours and this aircraft is available as a solo act or in conjunction with other display acts if requested. For more information about the aircraft, click ‘Our Aircraft’ tab at the top of the page.
